Annual Academic Sessions 2023, Sri Lanka College of Transfusion Physicians was held from 29 June
The Sri Lanka College of Transfusion Physicians (SL CTP) is the only academic body that is directly related to transfusion medicine in Sri Lanka, and it was established in 2012 with the patronage of the foremost Transfusion Medicine specialists in the island.
Continuous medical education activities organized by the college extents throughout the year with the participation of the college members, trainees in transfusion medicine, as well as other medical specialties. The annual academic session is the zenith of CME programs of the college resourced by local and foreign academics. Sri Lanka College of Transfusion Physicians promotes research in transfusion medicine in Sri Lanka.

As the President of the Sri Lanka College of Transfusion Physicians for the year 2024, I feel blessed have the opportunity to deliver this message to you. This years’ theme ‘Inspiring Hope Innovatively’is centrered around the contemperory topics of Transfusion, Transplantation and Cellular Therapies. Cellular therapy (CT) is the transplantation of human cells to includes stem cell- and non–stem cell-based, unicellular and multicellular therapies. With new technologies, innovative products, and limitless imagination, many different types of cells may be used as part of a therapy or treatment for a variety of diseases and conditions. Blood trnasfuion is one of the basic forms of tissue transplantation. With the expanding horizons in tissue transplantation and cellular therapies, our role as Transfusion Physicians is evolving into the realm of Transplant Physicians. Lanka has faced many obstacles in the recent years. Despite that our solid organ transplantation program has expanded both in the government sector and private sector. We are proudly stepping into the field of allogenic stem cell transplantation with the commencement of the Sri Lanka Stem Cell Donor Registry (SLSCDR)…..
